CLIL

Some opinions:

“Let’s CLIL in Idães” is a very funny project that my school has been developing for some years. I am in this project since the seventh year, and I am not tired so far, because we do several funny activities. The CLIL project consists of taking content classes in English, such as Math classes... At this moment, the classes that are involved in the project are: Math, ICT and Physical Education.

In my opinion the project is very important because we can improve our English. We have more interactive classes. It alsoincreases motivation and school success…I really like the project because while I am learning I am interacting with English intellectually.

I think all schools should adopt this project, as it is important for the students’ learning process.

If your school will adopt this project, do not hesitate to join, because it is amazing.

 Beatriz Ferreira, 9ºA

I’ve been going to this school for five years and I’ve been taking CLIL since seventh grade.

In my opinion the CLIL classes help me to improve my English because now I know more English words I am happy with this project because it helps me improve my grades and that’s good. I hope it helps more people like it helped me.

Beatriz Silva, 9ºC

After three years of CLIL, I think I may have improved my English. Although classes become more difficult to understand, I think CLIL is a good learning tool as we have to work harder to understand the content classes.  I think CLIL has helped me. It's not easy, but nothing is easy in this world either.

Cristina Costa, 9ºC

CLIL classes have advantages and disadvantages. It’s fun to communicate with teachers in English. We are very curious before going to a CLIL class because we learn new ways to communicate with the people around you. However, we have to double our levels of concentration to understand the teacher and the different topics. CLIL classes are not so bad at all.

Lúcia Pinto, 9ºC

 Gifted

From the director of 500 Days of Summer, Gifted starring Chris ...

This movie tells the story of a single men called Frank Adler that raises his intellectually gifted 7 year-old niece Mary and plans giving her a normal life as her mother Diane Adler wanted her to have.
Diane Adler was a young gifted woman with an extraordinary mathematical gift that passed almost her entire life trying to solve the Navier-Stokes Equation, one of the most important and hardest math puzzles. But with only 27 years old, Diane Adler committed suicide, leaving her daughter with his brother Frank.
Diane wanted Mary to have a life like a normal children should have. She wanted her to play, to have friends and to be happy, knowing that someday if anything happen to her and Mary would need to stay with someone, she wanted her to stay with Frank and not with her mother Evelyn (Mary’s maternal grandmother), because she would give her daughter a rich life with lots of study plans, having no time to be an actual normal child.

Gifted Review 2017 | Movie Review | Contactmusic.com

When Mary stands up in her first day of school because of her mathematical skills, which causes Evelyn’s attention. She elaborates a future full of plans for her granddaughter that can separate her from her uncle. Mary’s grandmother takes her son Frank to court to try to get her granddaughter’s custody. After several trials, the court decides that Mary should go an adoptive parents’ house.
Mary doesn’t handle it well, saying that Frank lied to her, because he promised her that they would never separate from which other.
After leaving Mary at the adoptive parents' house, which was 25 minutes from his home, Frank receives a message from Mary’s teacher, Bonnie, which showed a picture of an animal adoption poster, which Mary’s cat has there. Supposedly Fred (the girl’s cat) should be with her, so Frank went to the veterinary to pick up her cat.
The vet told Frank that Fred was only there because of an allergy cause, and only Evelyn had allergy to cats. So he took Fred home with more 2 cats, and went directly to Mary’s house with a box that was written his sister’s name, Diane.

Um Laço de Amor - Trailer Legendado - YouTube

As expected, Evelyn was there with more 2 math teachers, which were having classes with Mary. Frank goes in and shows a bunch of papers that were inside the box. After telling Mary to go home, the little girl runs away and Frank goes after her, hugging her and telling that what he made was a horrible mistake. During that, Evelyn looks thought the papers, when she discovers that her daughter had already discovered the resolution of the Navier-Stokes Equation. Frank told her that his sister didn’t want to show to everyone that she already had the resolution because she knew that her mother would take advantage of that. So she wanted to wait for her to die.
Frank gave two conditions: or they wait for Evelyn to die, so they could show that Diane did already discovered the resolution, or they call the Mathematics Department of MIT saying that Diane Adler discovered the resolution, but Evelyn would take the fame away from her daughter, because of interviews and conferences.
At the end of the movie, Evelyn called the Mathematics Department of MIT (so we know that Evelyn took the fame from her daughter) while Mary, Frank and Roberta (a friend of theirs) went home.
Mary now goes to a university with much older students, having time to play and be happy with her uncle.
